01 The idea
FREILUFT Fire: a low cabinet system that forms a bench or lounge with a grill-and-fire element and log storage.
The result is an outdoor fireplace with seating in one piece: you sit on the bench, the fire burns beside you, and the firewood waits in open compartments below. The bench is built from 5/16 in (8 mm) marine-grade aluminum, like every FREILUFT kitchen, and is made to order in Germany.
02 The bench
The bench is built from cabinets 23 5/8, 31 1/2 and 39 3/8 in (600, 800 and 1000 mm) wide, combined into runs up to 126 1/4 in (3208 mm) long. Each cabinet comes open, fitted with a solid oak shelf or fitted with a drawer, and each has adjustable leveling feet and magnetic plinth panels.
For the surface, choose a powder-coated finish, matt or fine texture, in a color from the FREILUFT collection. The same colors are available for the kitchen, so bench and kitchen can match.
03 The fire
In the lounge layout, a corner grill-and-fire element sits where the two benches meet. It is built like the fire in the kitchen: a grill-and-fire element built from stainless steel, cast iron and firebrick, with an aluminum hood powder-coated in your chosen color, an ember guard and a grill grate.
Keep it burning while you talk, or grill over the embers. Plan on 4.4 to 8.8 lb (2 to 4 kg) of firewood per fire. Every grill-and-fire element and the wood-fired oven need a draw tube, and under a roof or covering a roof duct is required.
04 Wood and cushions
Open compartments with a solid oak shelf hold the firewood, within reach of the fire. Seat cushions come in two sizes, with seats of about 19 1/4 in (49 cm) and 26 in (66 cm).
Each cushion has a backrest that adjusts steplessly to your preferred angle and outdoor fabric over a foam core that withstands light rain showers. For heavy rain and storms, plan a dry place to store them.

05 Example
An L-shaped lounge. The back bench holds firewood in two open compartments and ends in the corner grill-and-fire element; a second bench with drawers runs forward from the corner. Cushions on both benches turn them into seating.
Every FREILUFT kitchen is planned and made to order. This is a starting point.
06 Planning
The manufacturer specifies a minimum clearance of 11 13/16 in (30 cm) to adjacent building elements; local fire codes in Florida are reviewed during planning. The bench needs a firm, weather-resistant, non-combustible base; gravel is not suitable.
Whether the lounge stands by the pool, on a terrace or under a covered patio, we plan clearances, the draw tube and local requirements with your architect and licensed partners. We currently plan kitchens in Florida, starting in Miami.

Use properly dried firewood with no more than 15% residual moisture. Plan on 4.4 to 8.8 lb (2 to 4 kg) of firewood per fire. Dry wood smokes less and gives more heat.
The cushions are made of outdoor fabric over a foam core that withstands light rain showers. For heavy rain and storms, store them in a dry place.
Every grill-and-fire element and the wood-fired oven need a draw tube, and under a roof or covering a roof duct is required. The draw tube is a stainless steel pipe with an inner diameter of 8 7/8 in (225 mm), finished in Jet Black as standard. We plan its height and route with your architect and licensed partners.
